"Marrakesh" at Lyn's Fine Needlework

Today's class at Lyn's in Baulkham Hills was spent working on arrangements for whack and stack "Marrakesh" blocks.

Jeannette had already sewn her stunning Japanese floral blocks together in the serpentine arrangement.  She has set her blocks on a mottled blue/grey/yellow batik background fabric. Just borders to go.  We decided to use a rich red border around this section and then a wide border of the feature floral. Amazing!

Here are Lorraine's blocks using the Kaffe Fassett Cactus Dahlia fabric in soft pinks, purples and greens.  We set up a new arrangement for her delicate blocks with a large centre circle of fan blocks.  Lorraine has made this quilt to brighten up her Mum's bed in the nursing home.  Very pretty.

Here is a close up of the centre circle:

Here are two of the corner sections:

Lorraine is going to make the first border in the same pink fabrics as the centre circles and then the Dahlia floral.

Next, take a look at Meredith's blocks.  She used the same Kaffe Fassett Cactus Dahlia fabric in bright yellow, orange, purple, green and red.

The first photo shows the serpentine arrangement.  No matter how hard we tried, there was always an odd block which did not flow with the rest.  Can pick out which one I mean?

We then tried the centre circle arrangement and liked it much better.  This is the one we picked:

This is such a fun quilt to make.  I hope you enjoyed the photos.
