Busy Classes

Classes are Full Steam Ahead

I have been very busy with classes and workshops this month.

Taught my gorgeous Richmond friends my Cathedral Windows cushion and a coupld were finished in no time.  Well done girls!  Here is a photo of the results - mine is in the centre, Karol's on the right and Mary's on the left.  Beautiful!

I have also started my new monthly class at the beautiful shop Quiltsmith at Annandale.  Although it is a long way from home, this store is a must for all reproduction fabric fans!

I am teaching the girls my compass quilt called "The Way Ahead".  Here are two lovely compass blocks almost finished on the day.  Congrats Trish and Janice!

If you are interested in this class, I will be at Quiltsmith the fourth Thursday of every month this year.

Have also started two groups making "Longbourne", one group making Spikes and Specks, two groups making Whack and Stack projects and one group making Netherfield.  Will let you see photos of their work as we progress!

Country Pickins Quilt Camp

Quilt Camp in Katoomba in July

Thought I would show you some photographs of the project I will be teaching at Quilt Camp organised by Country Pickins at the Corner from 27 to 29 July in Katoomba.

I taught at this Camp last year and we all had a fabulous time!  It was very cold outside but with the great company and glorious food and lots of sewing we had great fun.

If you are interested to attend this year, just phone the shop on 02 9651 7201.

My quilt is a lap size or wall hanging made in stunning batiks.  The centre is a beautiful paper foundation pieced compass block.  It is surrounded by machine applique and pieced border.  The final border is a gorgeous Jinny Beyer border print.  Veronica Appleyard quilted it for me with absolutely spectacular pebbles in the background and detailed quilting over all the borders!  Thanks gorgeous girl!

Here are some details:

Cheers,

Whack and Stack Beauties

The girls at Narellan were working on my two Whack and Stack quilts in class yesterday.

Here is a photo of Michelle's gorgeous centre block for Fandango - wild fabric makes fantastic patterns!

Here are Kellie's blocks for her Millefiori quilt.  We are "auditioning" different colours for the background fabric for her blocks.  It really makes a difference!

These two quilts have been a fascinating exercise in fabric selection.  Even the most "unusual" fabric can look sensational when cut up and sewn in repetitive patterns.

I will keep you posted on the progress of the girls quilts.

Invitation to Attend Quilt Study Group

Invitation

I would like to invite everyone interested in quilting to attend a talk I am giving to the NSW Quilt Study Group which is affiliated with the NSW Quilters' Guild.

The talk will take place on Saturday, 17 March, 2012 at 2.00pm at the Theatrette of the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.

All my students are invited to attend and bring the quilts you have made in my classes.  There is a $5.00 fee for members of the Guild and a $15.00 entry fee for non-members.

I am really looking forward to this talk and hope that you can come and join me!

Classes are Back!

"Spikey" Class

I had a lovely class at Country Pickins' at the Corner at Dural yesterday.  This was the first time I have taught my new "Spikes and Specks" quilt.  Still love the colours and the quilting Veronica Appleyard did on it is gorgeous!

The girls did well (especially those who had never done foundation piecing before!) and we nearly finished one block in class.

Here are a few examples to show you different colour scheme ideas.

This one belongs to Janine - she loves those gorgeous batiks!

The next one belongs to Jenny, very pretty:

The next two photographs are of Jills completed rings laid over the top of two different colour choices for background and centre.  What a difference!  Which one will she choose?

It is such fun playing with colours and fabrics.  I cannot wait to see what other colour combos the girls come up with.

If you are interested in doing this class with me, I will be repeating the class at Dural on Saturdays 6 October, 3 November and 1 December, 2012.  Just phone the shop to book in on 02 9651 7201.

I also have spaces left in the class at Pioneer Patchwork at Narellan scheduled for Saturdays 18 August and 15 September, 2012.  The shop number is 02 4647 3555.

Happy stitching,

Katrina
