Longbourne in Morris

Wonderful "Fussy Cutting"

I have been corresponding with Claire since we met at AQC in Melbourne in April.

Claire has been making my "Longbourne" quilt since attending class there.

She is an avid and devoted fan of William Morris fabric.

Here is an update on the lovely hexagons she has put together for her quilt.

Here are Claire's lovely elongated hexagon and square frames for her three-eighth inch hexagon rosettes.  I just love those little babies!  Congratulations Claire!

Quiltsmith Classes

Classes at Quiltsmith

I have been teaching some lovely ladies at Quiltsmith in Annandale.  They are making a variety of my machine pieced and appliqued quilts.

Here is Sue's magnificent version of my "Spikes and Specks" quilt.  Of course her colour scheme is TOTALLY different to mine - it is great to see my designs in different fabrics.

Sue also excelled by piecing an additional triangle border and enlarged my applique design from the centre of the quilt to make a spectacular applique border - I wish I had done that!

Way to go, Sue.  I love it.

If you would like to join this class, I am teaching at Quiltsmith the fourth Thursday of each month.

Bloomin Logs and Millefiori

Classes for Epping Quilters

I will be teaching two one day workshops for the Epping Quilters on Thursday 29 November, 2012 and Thursday, 31 January, 2013 at the Epping Creative Centre.

The two quilts I will be teaching are Bloomin' Logs and Millefiori.

Bloomin Logs consists of machine pieced courthouse steps blocks in rich reproduction fabrics of brown, maroon and blue.  Machine applique techniques are used to embellish the blocks with vines and flowers.

Millefiori is a whack and stack quilt where 60 degree triangles are cut from a stack of fabrics and assembled to make kaleidoscopic hexagon blocks.

I am looking forward to meeting the ladies from this group and teaching them some new techniques.

Batik Compass

New Class

I will be teaching my batik compass design at Pioneer Patchwork later in the year.  The dates are Saturday 20 October and 17 November, 2012.  The workshops will commence at 10am and continue until 4pm.

If you have not tried paper foundation piecing or machine applique this is a great one to get you started - it is not as hard as it looks!

Big Weekend

"Longbourne" Lovelies

I had a big weekend of Longbourne classes at Pioneer Patchwork last weekend.  Two seperate classes came in on Saturday and Sunday for show and tell and time for more instructions.

Here is the progress on some of the gorgeous quilts:

The first one is Sue's - she is such a quick worker and loves her applique.  A lot of her hexagons are cut from William Morris fabrics - wow!

This one is Julie's.  She is so excited about hers and now she is up to the hexagons!

This one belongs to Elaine.  I love her pomegranites!

This one is Chris'.  Hexagons are pinned and glued on ready to be sewn - it looks wonderful.

This beauty belongs to Teresa.  That stripe is mitred so well on the borders, ready for hexagons.  Look at her pot - it is so lovely!

I am so proud of all of my girls!  Your work is looking just fantastic and it is so rewarding to see everyone enjoying their sewing.

Regards,

Machine Applique

Intensive Workshop on Machine Applique

By special request I will be conducting a workshop on Tuesday, 7 August, 2012 at Pioneer Patchwork at Narellan aimed at developing your machine applique skills.

This will be an intensive day of instruction, demonstration and practice to perfect machine applique on your own sewing machine.

The project we will be working on is my "Kentucky" table runner.  Come prepared with your pattern pieces fused to the background and we will do all the stitching in class.

The workshop will run from 10am to 4pm and cost is $55 for the day.  Some vacancies still available.

For further enquiries phone the shop at 02 4647 3555.

UFOs

Special Workshop at Pioneer Patchwork

We had a lovely day on Tuesday with some of my regular ladies attending a UFO Day.  Although it was very cold and wintery outside, we were snug and happy sewing in the workshop room.

Here is Jenny, Pauline, Cindy, Janine, Kylie, Robyn, Jean and Judy enjoying their stitching (Janine and Lynn must be in the shop!)

Jan and Janine surprised me with their completed "Longbourne" quilts for show and tell.  This hard working duo only started classes for this quilt in February this year and it is all hand sewn (except the sashes and borders)! Fabulous work, girls.  Congratulations!

This is Janine's, all in beautiful pinks, browns, reds and blues.  It has a real "old world" look.

This is Jan's in a stunning combination of blue and red.  Wow!

How different can the same quilt look?

Stay tuned for more...  Katrina

Last Class at Country Pickins"

"Florentine" in Different Colours

I taught my last class at Country Pickins' at the Corner at Dural yesterday.  Robyen has moved to Taree to open a shop up there.

The girls were working on their "Florentine" quilts.  It was great to see my design in different colour ways.

This is my the original quilt:

Here are some photos of the girls quilts:

Julie's was in primary colours:

This one is in gorgeous pinks and greens:

This is definitely the pastel shabby chic version:

This one is also beautiful in pink and green:

Susan is holding up her centre block.

Well done girls and thank you to all my loyal students at Dural.  Happy stitching!

"Fussy Cutting" Queen!

I have addicted the odd person to my obsession with hexagons but Natalie has to top the list!

The lovely Natalie has enrolled in just about every class and workshop I have taught at Pioneer over the past year or two.

She is currently working on her "Bollywood" version of my "Longbourne" quilt in bright orange, green, gold and black.

Here are her MAGNIFICENT three-eighth inch hexagon rosettes, every one "fussy cut" to perfection.  Congratulations Natalie, I love them.

This is Natalie's "Longbourne" centre so far, wow!

Pioneer Patchwork Workshop

Trip to Pennsylvania!

I took the girls at Pioneer Patchwork on an adventure last weekend making my "Pennsylvania" quilt.

This is one of my old favourites - lots of machine piecing of small blocks in a huge array of reproduction fabrics.  The quilt is a sampler of some of my favourite blocks - churn dash, shoo fly, spinning star.

Here is the original:

Here are the girls working on their blocks.  Everyone looks too busy to stop and smile - or maybe I took the photo without teling them!

Here are some of the blocks completed in class:

They look great girls - hope you had fun!
